EPDM Sealing Manufacturers
Kirkfield manufactures a variety of EPDM Sponge Seals. As a synthetic rubber, EPDM is highly durable, watertight and has a good compression set resistance. Its properties make it well-suited for creating reliable seals in many industrial applications. We manufacture seals from EPDM seal material in pre-shaped gaskets, plain or adhesive-backed strips, and washers, so you can apply this versatile material to any profile.
The Characteristics of an EPDM Sponge / Rubber Seal
EPDM Seal material is a closed-cell sponge rubber with excellent mechanical and chemical characteristics. These make both EPDM Sponge Seals and EPDM Rubber Seals ideal for use in the chemical, electrical and automotive industries.
Weather Resistance: EPDM rubber is resistant to ozone, UV light and other harsh weather conditions, making it perfect for outdoor applications.
Chemical Resistance: Seals made from EPDM have good resistance to acids, bases, and other chemicals, making them suitable for use in chemical processing plants.
High Heat Tolerance: The molecular structure of the EPDM rubber means it can withstand high temperatures up to 100oC, making it suitable for use in high-temperature environments. It is also durable in temperatures as low as -35oC, so can be used in cold environments such as refrigeration and industrial freezers.
Good Compression Set Resistance: EPDM Sponge Seals have good compression set resistance, meaning they can return to their original shape after being compressed. No matter how it gets squeezed, EDPM sponge returns quickly, making it ideal for seals, gaskets and cushioning in automotive and manufacturing applications.
Sound and Vibration Insulation: Because it absorbs sound and vibration, EPDM rubber is ideal for use in automotive and industrial applications, providing cushioning and reducing machinery noise.
Water Resistant: The closed-cell structure of EPDM makes it perfect for creating seals to prevent leaks.
Excellent Elasticity: EPDM seal material has excellent elasticity and flexibility, making the seal easy to install.
Thanks to these properties, EPDM is a versatile and durable material perfect for use in automotive, electronic and construction trades, for jointing, glazing seals, closure seals and shock absorption.

EPDM Rubber Seal FAQs

What is an EPDM Rubber Seal?
EPDM is a synthetic rubber made from Ethylene, Propylene, and Diene Monomer, with excellent chemical and mechanical properties suited for gaskets and sealing work in any industry. EPDM sealing is durable, insulating, airtight and watertight, making them well-suited to many industrial applications.
What can EPDM Sealing be used for?
EPDM gaskets can be used as flange gaskets, sealing the gap between two pipes or components. EPDM flange gaskets are used widely in automotive, electrical, construction, water and chemical industries, due to their excellent resistance and insulation properties.
What are the main features of EPDM Sealing?
Many features of EPDM Rubber Seals and Sponge Seals make them well-suited to many applications. These include:
- Water and Chemical Resistant
- Highly durable and abrasion resistant
- Maintain functionality in extreme temperatures (-35o – 100oC)
- Flexible and Good Compression Set Resistance
- Insulates against heat, noise, vibration and electrical currents
- Weather resistant, suitable for outdoor use
What grades of thickness are available for our EPDM Seals?
We manufacture EPDM Rubber and Sponge Seals and other custom seals to customer specifications. Our standard thicknesses include:
1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm and 30mm.
Is EPDM Sealing environmentally friendly?
Synthetic rubbers are made from petrochemicals (fossil fuels), so they are not considered environmentally friendly. They do not biodegrade and are not made from recycled materials. However, an EPDM rubber is highly durable, lasting longer than other, weaker rubbers, reducing the need for regular replacement and the waste this creates. Because they are so durable, using EPDM Seals can prevent chemical leakages and pollution, improving the environmental sustainability of operations where damaging chemicals are involved.
